Cezanne’s Table- 5th Grade

This was a collaborative project with every student in the class setting brush to every dish.

Currency Self Portraits 7th Grade
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC03861.jpgStudents created their own currency starring themselves. Students took a self portrait using the timer feature on a digital camera. The photo was then printed on a transparency. Students were offered an array of paper to choose from to create their own bill. Calligraphy techniques and brush pens were used in creating the final product. The Currency was laminated, then displayed in a shadow box. Each bill is floated on foam core.

Hanging on a Limb: A Sculptural Tribute to the Faberge Egg- 6th Grade
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC03855.jpgStudents were given duck eggs that had been emptied of their yolk & inner matter. These eggs have been treated with a coat of hardener and primer to make them more durable. Students took inspiration from Peter Carl Faberge in embellishing their egg with designs, crystals & metallic paints. These egg were strung with copper wire and hung on a large Manzanita branch stabilized in a mirrored square vase.

Cooper- Mini Cooper 3rd Grade
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC038291.jpgStudents came up with a design and then painted a Mini Cooper Dye-Cast car (that had been disassembled and sprayed w/ primer) using very small paint brushes and enamel paint. The cars were reassembled. These cars are displayed in a framed shadow box.

A Sculptural Tribute to Georgia O’Keefe Pre-K

The flowers were fired in a home oven, mounted with a glue gun to a sheet of Plexiglas with textured paper adhered to the back. This piece is displayed in a shadow box w/ a glass face due to its delicacy.

Flying High: A Collaboration of Aerial Landscapes 4th Grade
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC038191.jpgStudents used scrapbook paper to cut out collage pieces that helped to create an Aerial Landscape. These were adhered to 4” x 6” watercolor paper. Acrylic paints were used between the pieces of paper to create “rivers” and “roads” that connect the diverse patterned “fields.” The individual pieces were puzzle-pieced together and framed as one collective Aerial Landscape.

The End of A Time: Goodbye Polaroid Camera 8th Grade
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC038201.jpgStudents had a last experience with the polaroid camera (they stopped making them & I bought some of the last of the pre-expiration film on ebay). These photos were montaged together to create a conceptual piece celebrating the end of an era. Students captured their last memories of the place they have known as a second home for the last eleven years of their lives. Goodbye St. Michael’s. Goodbye Polaroid Camera.

Picasso’s Piano PreSchool
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC038401.jpgThe class painted a kid-sized baby grand piano with a music inspired design on the the legs and piano stool and a replica of Pablo Picasso’s famous painting “Three Musicians” on the lid of the piano. The surface is treated with Marine Spar Varnish to protect the work from peeling, sun damage, and any spills/ water damage that might occur with the owner.

Talk to the Hand: A Pop Art Homage to Michael Angelo 1st Grade
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC038241.jpgStudents took a polaroid snap shot of their hand making one of the letters of the sign language alphabet. These photographs were photocopied onto watercolor paper and the students used water color paints to vibrantly fill in their photograph. The pieces were assembled in one large piece that includes the entire alphabet.

NeoImpressionist Vineyard Landscape 2nd Grade
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC03837.jpgStudents learned about a Post Impressionist technique called “pointillism.” Students used their finger prints to create vineyard landscapes in the Impressionist style. This was done on watercolor paper. For the background, students used watercolor paint and brushes using a Wet-On-Wet technique to produce the final project. The final product is a collection of individual pieces matted & framed in a long horizontal collective landscape.

Van Gogh's Patio Kindergarten
http://marensartstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/DSC038421.jpgA set of Adirondack chairs were painted with sunflowers by the Kindergarteners. Each student got the opportunity to paint the red of the background, the green of the leaves and stem, and the yellow and brown of the petals and center of the flowers. After the class painting was completed, these chairs will were treated with Marine Spar Varnish to prevent sun and water damage.
